Daren Butler - Plant Uses Workshop
The Wulgurukaba Plant Trail was officially opened on Sunday 5th May 2013. The opening day was sponsored by NQ Dry Tropics through Australia’s Caring for Country and was hosted by Saunders Beach Community Centre.

The opening day was a celebration of Indigenous culture; an event which brought together members of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. The program began with Welcome to Country from Michael Johnson, a traditional smoking ceremony and an introduction from the President of the Saunders Beach Community Centre.

Lloyd Wyles from 4k1g radio was MC for the event; introducing performances from the Wulgurukaba Walkabout Dancers, Shalom Christian College Dancers, Marrinyama and Deadly Blokes and Kids.

A range of free activities were enjoyed on the day, including spearthrowing, art workshop, face painting and jumping castle. An informative talk about the traditional use of plants was also given by Daren Butler.

Hundreds of people came along and enjoyed the open day. Thanks to all those involved for making this a memorable event and a special big thank you to members of the Saunders Beach Community Centre for their hard work on the day.
